Context

As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

The Role

As part of our ESS Engineering group, his/her mission is to assure the introduction of new technology for development of green energy storage systems for railway traction and auxiliary applications. The ESS Process Engineer is responsible to define manufacturing process and associated equipment (Tools, Jigs & Fixtures) for a new product, taking into account the industrial policy, existing standards and constraints of the project. As such, he/she will be ensuring QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) management on manufacturing activities and contribute continous improvement of methods and tools related to mechanical development.

He/She is responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.

 

Main Responsibilities

On this position you will be working as a Process & Manufacturing Engineering team member being responsible for:

  • Gather industrial requirements that Engineering has to comply with, during product specification and design.
  • Bring his expertise to the industrial Costing Manager during tender phase.
  • Participate in product design in co-engineering mode, using appropriate methodologies.
  • Define manufacturing process and associated equipment for a new product, taking into account the industrial policy, existing standards and constraints of the project.
  • Develop and deploy processes, tools & quality standards with industrial teams.
  • Train the Manufacturing Engineers on the applicable Standards and Rule for PME.
  • Deliver training for Quality teams to Industrial Quality Standards. Manage the quality methods team if relevant.
  • Design the macro-process, based on standard SMP. Manage Quality activities related to digital tools: GSI, QES & AOS.
  • Manage APSYS improvement plan for Industrial Quality scope.
  • Prepare introduction of new technologies, if need be, with associated process validation plan.
  • Identify needs of specific manufacturing equipment.
  • Estimate Method Time and perform a preliminary line balancing.
  • Manage when needed the metrology activity and monitor external provider of calibration.
  • Identify critical process steps where to perform detailed Process FMEA and full FAR / FAI.
  • Perform Workstation audits planning, ensure follow-up & management of relevant action plans.
  • Perform industrial documentation (list of material, work instructions, task sequence, …) for the project.
  • Estimate the manufacturing workload for the parts corresponding to his domain.
  • Industrialize retrofit after engineering changes : documentation, workstation definition / update.
  • Support Production to achieve manufacturing QCD targets.
  • Participate to continuous improvement workshops. Participates to R&D programs as industrial representative.
  • Manage activity related to car history book (Traceability, configuration, …).
  • Perform industrial REX on manufacturing processes and contribute to continous improvement.
  • Ensure the capitalization of feedback on reference solutions or document repositories of the business.

 

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

  • BTech/ MTech degree in Electrical Engineering, Quality or similar.
  • 5 years’ experience in industrial project management, data analytics, savvy with ERP & data visualization.
  • Processes knowledge on Quality audit at industrial level. Continuous Improvement / Six Sigma background preferred.
  • Technical mastering of railways products or industry with similar requirements of robustness, functional safety, long term support (aerospace, automotive, military).
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
